Fourth grade elementary school students in the Northport-East Northport School District have recently been participating in activities utilizing interactive coding robots called Spheros.

Using their Chromebooks, students used block coding to program the robots to navigate a hand drawn city they created. As part of the activity, students worked in collaborative teams to program the robots to navigate the twists and turns of their city, and to make stops along the way where they programmed the robots to complete actions such as lighting up and spinning.

The Northport-East Northport School District recently welcomed new incoming teachers during a two-day orientation that included professional development and engaging activities to learn about the school community. The new staff members participated in a comprehensive orientation program which included introductions to district administration, a bus ride throughout the district and a question-and-answer panel with students.

On Monday, Aug. 26, incoming Northport High School ninth grade students attended their freshman orientation where they were introduced to the school building and learned important information to support them in their transition to high school.

As part of the orientation, students were introduced to building administrators and their class adviseors during an assembly where they learned about the various resources available to them throughout the building. As the orientation continued, students participated in breakout sessions where the groups learned more about building procedure, interacted with their peers and made new friends.

Students from the National Honor Society assisted in the facilitation of the orientation by welcoming students to the building upon arrival, helping in the breakout sessions and helping students navigate the school building to find their classes.

The Northport Girls Flag Football team traveled to MetLife Stadium on Saturday, August 10, where they were invited by the New York Jets to play during halftime of the Jets preseason game. It was an incredible opportunity for our community and program to have the experience of walking out of the tunnel and playing in a large stadium.
