Several students from Northport High School’s Digital Generation course presented their collaborative final projects at Stony Brook University’s Charles B. Wang Center on Jan 13.

There were 14 groups of students, each with representatives from five Long Island high schools, including Northport, Riverhead, Sayville, Westhampton Beach and Half Hollow Hills East and West. The program uses a blended learning model to virtually connect the school districts’ students to have them understand the power of the internet and social media.

Since September, the students have worked together using Google digital platforms to communicate and create a public service announcement, infographic and website debating opposing sides of an ethical dilemma, such as consumer privacy, ethics in college acceptance, public health threats and cyberbullying.

The winning teams, which include three Northport High School students – Matt Gray, Gabriella DeStasi and Madison Cassar – will visit Google headquarters in New York City in March.
