Congratulations to Northport High School Class of 2020 valedictorian Peter DeTolla who was recently recognized by the Suffolk County School Superintendents Association for his academic success.

For 26 years, the association has been honoring Suffolk County high school valedictorians at its annual Valedictorians Luncheon. Unfortunately, this year’s luncheon was canceled due to the global health pandemic, however, DeTolla’s accomplishments were celebrated just the same.

On behalf of the SCSSA, Northport-East Northport Superintendent of Schools Robert Banzer recently presented DeTolla with a commemorative program, congratulatory video, certificate of achievement and a childhood storybook: “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” by Dr. Seuss.

The program and video, created specifically for the Class of 2020, featured information on each of Suffolk County’s valedictorians and their plans for the future.
“The choice of storybook was certainly appropriate, as this year’s valedictorians plan to attend some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the nation,” SCSSA wrote.

After graduation, DeTolla plans to study mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Following a video conference with DeTolla, Northport High School Principal Daniel Danbusky tweeted, “What a great start to my day. Congratulations to the Class of 2020 Valedictorian Peter DeTolla!”
