Northport High School juniors in the school’s Academy of Information Technology program are seeking IT professional technology paid internships for the summer of 2017. This year the program has 35 internship candidates who will be participating.

The national program was established by the IT industry and The National Academy Foundation (NAF) to develop future leaders with the skills necessary to succeed in this fast-paced growth area. High school students with interests in computer science, video editing, web design, programming, computer networking and cybersecurity take part in the four-year interdisciplinary program.

In addition to coursework, field trips, and guest speakers, AOIT students are required to complete a paid internship with an IT professional prior to their senior year to learn more about the industry.

“I believe that this program is beneficial to students because they have a chance to gain real world experience prior to graduation,” said Academy of Information Technology Coordinator Danielle Milazzo. “As a result of this program, many find confirmation that they are on the right path in choosing their major or career at the completion of their internship.”
