Walking for Wellness

The Ocean Avenue Elementary School community banded together on June 2 for the school’s annual Walk for Wellness event. Family members showed their support by attending the walk, which focuses on promoting health and wellness and has taken place for more than 20 years.

Starting at the school, fifth-graders led the way down the hill with students holding up health-related signs and showing their school pride. The Northport Police Department was on hand to keep everyone safe as the students walked up Main Street and back up Norwood/Dogwood until they reached the school again. Principal Sabina Larkin also walked with the classes as they cheered.

During the walk, students encouraged drivers to honk in support and many residents came outside to greet the children as they passed. To prepare for the big walk, students in third to fifth-grade took part in a Fun Run during the month of May. This run allowed them to run a total of eight or more miles during recess.
