Congratulations to all 21 DECA students who competed at the Young
Professionals Chamber of Commerce competition on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at
St. Joseph's college in Patchogue. The competition, which included
nearly 400 students from 21 school districts across Long Island,
required students to present a project they prepared in advance to two
of 45 judges. These judges ranged from local business owners, to sports
executives, to local politicians. Two groups of Northport students
were first place winners—Luciana Arteaga and Colin Trainor in
Hospitality Services, and Kelly Finegan and Alexandra Weidenman in
Travel and Tourism.
Finegan and Weidenman had the unique opportunity to present a project on
the new Northport Hotel downtown, which they deemed a perfect central
location for people who lived in the city to experience the wineries and
eastern Long Islanders to experience a professional show at the Engeman
Theater.
Second place winners were Ryan Lupo and Pat Burke in Entertainment
Marketing, and James O'Hara and Stephen Muzyka in Sports Marketing.
Nicole Cappiello and Mikayla Martin placed third in Hospitality
Services.
