Northport High School junior Katie Sierra was recently admitted to the prestigious 2018 Simons Summer Research Program. This program is highly competitive, accepting around 12% of applicants each year. Applicants include many of the best science students from all over the country. This award reflects on the quality of Ms. Sierra’s application, her strong academic record, and the recommendations of her science research faculty advisor, Mr. Bryan Horan.

“Her nomination for this fellowship is in itself an honor,” said David Storch, the district chairperson of science & technology, “and it’s an indication of her exceptional promise.”

In addition, Ms. Sierra was recently notified that she scored in the top 2.5% of all PSAT test takers, and is moving on in the National Hispanic Recognition Program, which is run by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
