Business Students Qualify for National-Level Competition

35 Northport High School business students traveled to Rochester, NY at the beginning of March to compete in the DECA State Career Development Conference. Of those students, 25 students brought back medals after the competition, and three students placed in the top five of their competing category. This competition included over 2,500 competitors from Long Island and New York State. DECA, a business club for students studying marketing, management, entrepreneurship and economics, prepares emerging leaders for their future.

Students Kelly Finegan placed second overall in the Retail Merchandising category, Katerina Wettengel placed third overall in the Human Resource Management category and Max Aftel placed fourth overall in the Quick Serve Restaurant category. All three of these students qualified to compete at the national level in Atlanta this upcoming May.

In addition, Courtney Healy, JP Chave, Max McNaughton, Maura Gilmore, Claudia Dilimentin and Gabi Lee all placed in the top ten overall in his/her category.

Students who medaled in the either the exam or the roleplay events are Zach Evans, Nicole Capiello, Faith Gillin, Luciana Arteaga, Zach Heckman, Ryan Dowling, Colin Trainor, John Cooney, Jack Corrigan and Hayley Hayden.
