Fifty Northport High School DECA students participated in a High School Heroes event at Norwood Elementary School on May 24.

In preparation for the event, business students in grades ten through twelve were trained by a Junior Achievement representative in order to act as “Teacher for a Day” to students in grades one through five. Junior Achievement USA is a nationwide organization that is dedicated to providing students the knowledge and skills they need to own to be plan for and be successful in their future through smart academic and economic choices. In order to provide a basic overview of the business world to younger students, Junior Achievement lessons are delivered in a one-day event.

The day’s lessons focused on economic basics, how communities work, and more. In addition to covering the basics of economy, the program seeks to provide positive role models for younger children and to foster school-to-school connections.
