Location

Northport is a residential community situated on the North Shore in historical Huntington Township on Long Island about 40 miles from New York City. Our community includes the areas of East Northport, Asharoken Beach and Eaton's Neck and is easily accessible via Long Islands network of highways.

Community Profile

Northport is a dynamic, active community of approximately 39,000 residents boasting a pleasant blending of quiet suburban living with the easy availability of the nation's largest city. Originally called "Great Cow Harbor", a reference to the cows pastured at the harbor's mouth, the village adopted the official name of Northport in 1837 and today still remains a lively, attractive, water-oriented village. An attractive waterside park now lines the harbor front with Main Street retaining much of the charm of the 19th century. The community consists of six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school with a student enrollment of approximately 6,511.

Special District Features

Northport offers a comprehensive curriculum which permits students to establish a program which is unique to their specific needs and interests.

A basic education program is offered at all levels and is augmented by a wide range of learning modes and elective programs to meet the interests, abilities, needs and career goals of District pupils.

Present statistics indicate that more than 97% of our high school graduates continue their education.

Northport boasts an outstanding Art and Music Program. The High School art department, choir, band, and orchestra have been recognized on national and regional levels for the high quality of their performances and student art work.

Northport has instituted a Parent Center where all members of the community can gather to interact. Educational programs, parent support groups and parent drop-in support and information services are offered.
