Northport-East Northport school district students love celebrating Halloween, and that starts with their in-school activities. The district encouraged teachers and administrators to find unique ways to continue to celebrate the holiday despite not being able to utilize traditional events, and each school stepped up to the plate with creative activities.
Across all the elementary schools, both teachers and students showed off their best costumes. At Dickinson Avenue Elementary school, PTA members arranged a pumpkin patch for students to take class photos in front of. Kids dressed in all sorts of costumes, from the classic witches to the creative monsters and even a birdhouse costume, stood in front of the backdrop to show off their look.
Over at Bellerose Avenue Elementary school, students were able to enjoy a Google Meet session with guest Rachel Kempster Barry, local author of The Ghostly Tales of Long Island. Ms. Kempster Barry read a portion of the book to students and they were able to ask questions about her inspiration and writing process.
East Northport Middle School science classes created a pretend crime scene investigation, which was staged to teach students about observation, while Northport Middle School enjoyed some Halloween treats.
While the usual STEM Halloween Night event wasn’t able to take place this year, high school students stepped up to support their younger peers by developing an interactive Halloween Board. Students and their families could use the board to find various links to different Halloween themed science activities and experiments.
Finally, Northport High School students Taryn Gerlach, Emma Martensen and Olivia DeFeo had their art works selected for the “Nightmare on Main Street” art exhibit presented by the Huntington Arts Council. In its 9th year, this juried exhibit invites students grades 6-12 to participate in “Nightmare on Main Street” with art inspired by the theme of Halloween.  The art works are on display until November 7th.
