Northport High School girls' varsity field hockey team is celebrating following their first ever Suffolk County Class A Championship win and subsequent first ever Class A Long Island Championship win. The Tigers defeated Ward Melville 2-1 to seal the county award and then took out the undefeated Garden City for the Long Island title.

Head Coach Gina Walling called the win against Ward Melville “a long time coming.” The Tigers were down by one in the fourth quarter, when midfielder Sophia Bica tied the game. Less than one minute later, fellow midfielder Olivia McKenna scored the final goal for the girls, securing the win with the help of center defender Angelina Longo. Coach Walling shared that after a difficult season, “their determination and above all, teamwork has brought them a confidence that is unwavering.”

Congratulations Tigers!
