ENL and World Language Rotary Students of the Month Recognized at Board Meeting

Two students were recognized by the Northport-East Northport Board of Education during the November 4 meeting as Rotary Students of the Month for English as a new language (ENL) and World Language. Iveth Granados earned the ENL Student of the Month award while Stefany Jimenez was honored for her work in World Language. 

Iveth was chosen thanks to her dedication to advancing her profienceny in English, despite immigrating to America less than four years ago. Iveth is a member of the National Honor Society and has tested at a commanding level of English.

“Her determination to succeed is unmatched” shared ENL teacher Stefany Contreras. “She is an inspiration to her peers. She is the greatest inspiration to her teachers, to her family and leaves a mark on everyone she is around.”

Stefany Jimenez was selected as World Language Rotary Student of the Month due to her tremendous success in her Italian courses as well as her overall appreciation for language and culture. 

“She respects what language can do for her,” said Chairperson of World Language and ENL Jennifer Nesfield. “I just know she’s going to have a huge impact on the world.”

Iveth is hoping to pursue a career as a nurse, while Stefany intends on applying to law schools after earning her Bachelors degree.
