Northport High School junior Todd Petry has been awarded the Rensselaer Medal, which awards him a $30,000 per year scholarship to attend the technological institution located in New York State. If Todd applies and is accepted to the institute, he will receive the scholarship to one of the most prestigious schools in the state.

The scholarship is awarded each year to one student in any high school who shows significant skills in mathematics and science. Teachers and administrators nominate the student who they believe has the academic skillset to meet the school’s rigorous requirements.

Todd has not yet decided on his steps post high school graduation, but plans to pursue either engineering or computer science in the future. He has taken a multitude of advanced mathematics and technology courses. Principal Rob Dennis, Chairperson of Science and Technology David Storch and Chairperson of Mathematics Robin Rann surprised Todd with the news on May 5. Rensselaer is the oldest technological institution in North America.
