NHS Teacher Earns High School Science Teacher of the Year Award

Northport High School’s talented science and technology department continues to earn recognitions for their work in STEM. Teacher Bryan Horan has been selected by the Suffolk Section of the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) to receive the annualHigh School Science Teacher of the Yearaward! The award recognizes Bryan as being in the forefront of science education as a leader that inspires both students and colleagues to reach for higher goals.  


Programs coordinated by Bryan in the Northport-East Northport School District spark the creativity of students, develop a passion for STEM-related learning and prepare students for university.  


In addition to a tremendous teacher, Mr. Horan has served as the science research program coordinator at Northport High School since 2003 and is a NYS Master Teacher Alumni. He has served as an adjunct professor at Stony Brook University since 2000, was the BROADCOM Masters Middle School Science Fair Director from 2012-2017, director of ALS science research program and AMND philanthropy center from 2006-2013 and the director of Team Packard Scholar STEM Challenge from 2014-2018.
