Young chefs in the making, Northport High School students are challenging themselves to learn new flavors and prepare meals in a hurry during their annual “Iron Chef” competition. Students in elective course American regional foods each had a set amount of time to prepare a meal they felt would be served on Memorial Day weekend. With teachers and administrators as judges, four teams presented their meals.

Menu options were cheesesteaks, taco cups, chicken and waffles and kebab skewers. Not only did students have to prepare the meals with limited time, but they also had to explain their dishes and clean their stations.

Judges included various teachers, Principal Rob Dennis and Assistant Principal Angelo Cocchiola. While each meal was delicious, only one team could come out on top. After the judging process, it was decided that the team behind chicken and waffles was the winner.

“After a hard-fought battle of skill and spice the winning team for period 7 American Regional Foods Iron Chef Competition is Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles made by team 3,” said teacher Michael Roberts.

Congratulations to Thomas Rivera, Michael Raio, Alex Bender, Ryan DeMeo, Dane Korabik and Roman Rizzo who made the winning dish!
