To promote Tiger Pride, Dickinson Avenue Elementary recently had a week
filled with activities reflecting the R.O.A.R.S. campaign – respect,
ownership, attitude, responsibility, and safety. Each day of the week
represented a letter in the acronym. Teachers incorporated each idea
into morning meetings and classroom lessons, and gave students the
opportunity to talk to each other about how they related to those
themes.
The end of the week culminated with a variety show. Students read poems,
sang songs, put on skits, and played Jeopardy, with every “act”
reflecting the R.O.A.R.S. campaign.
“It was not only a fun week, but a meaningful week,” said Principal
Essenfeld. “We’re always looking for ways to help our students grow
socially and emotionally, in happy and positive directions.”
