Northport High School athletes have a lot to celebrate this month and can flaunt some new titles as well.

On Nov. 8, the Boys’ Cross-Country team defeated Smithtown and Eastport-South Manor to win the Suffolk County Class “A” Championship. Congratulations to coaches Jason Strom and William Miller and students, Thomas Fodor, Dillon Heinzman, Aidar Matthews, Wyeth Semo, Thomas Serra, Tim Sheahan and Cristian Zabala. The team will travel to Plattsburgh this weekend to compete in the New York State Championships.

The school’s Girls Swimming and Diving team also recently earned ultimate bragging rights and placed third at the County Championships. Northport student athletes won two of three relays, including the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Congratulations to Coach Drew Modrov and students, Caitlyn Riordan, Makenna O'Brien, Chloe Stepanek, Danielle Levanti and Lia Edlin Miller.

In addition to her team’s outstanding performances, Ms. Stepanek won first place in the 200-yard Freestyle and 500-yard Freestyle, breaking her school, county and state record for both. She also broke her school and county record in the 50-yard Freestyle. Both swims earn her automatic All-American status and she was awarded “Most Outstanding Performer“ for the fourth consecutive year.

Swimmers, Dorothy Amato, Bridget Conlin, Ms. Edlin Miller, Ms. Levanti, Makenna O'Brien, Ms. Riordan and Ms. Stepanek will compete in the New York State Championships at Ithaca College next weekend.
