On Nov. 12, Project V.E.T.S. – Veterans Enlisting Teachers and Students – held its sixth annual Veterans Day Panel at Northport High School.

To kick the morning off, members of Northport’s American Legion Post 694 were invited to a hearty breakfast and lunch provided by the school’s culinary students, under the leadership of Ms. Mayer and Mr. Roberts. The panel consisted of three Northport graduates from 1997, 2000 and 2006, all of whom are veterans in the Global War on Terror. 

Thank you to Ashling Gaines of the U.S. Army’s Operation Iraqi Freedom, Ricky Silechio and Darryl St. George of the U.S. Army’s Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The veterans were humbled by the respect and enthusiasm shown to them by the students, who were inspired by the stories that were shared. It was a day to remember.
