The smell of cinnamon filled the cafetorium at Ocean Avenue Elementary School as kindergartners worked hard to create holiday keepsake ornaments on Dec. 9.

Working alongside their parents, they bopped to holiday classics like “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” all while rolling out dough made of applesauce and cinnamon.

Once the mixture was flat enough, the students used cookie cutters in the shapes of gingerbread men, candy canes and snowflakes to create their ornaments. After a day or so, the dough will harden and the students can gift their creations to someone special for the holidays.
