Students enrolled in IB History of the Americas at Northport High School attended the Never is Now conference at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan on November 10. Never is Now is the world’s largest annual summit on antisemitism and hate and brings together esteemed guest speakers to discuss the state of antisemitism and how both individuals and organizations can combat it.
Students with an interest in the topic were able to sign up to attend the conference with teacher Brittany Klein. While there, they were able to hear from guest speakers and join breakout sessions where they learned about laws regarding antisemitism, the role of social media in antisemitism and a variety of other topics. Students from districts throughout the country attended the event, and all were invited to a special breakout session specifically for high schoolers to discuss a variety of topics amongst peers.
The event was hosted by the Anti-Defamation League, an organization which was founded in 1913 and whose mission is to “protect the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all.”
