Students enrolled in Northport High School’s LEAD class recently wrote, directed, and produced their own live performance about Halloween safety. Prior to Halloween, students performed their plays to teach their younger peers at each of the district’s elementary schools about good habits and behaviors on Halloween and while trick-or-treating.
LEAD is a course for seniors focused on participation in government and economics where students are expected to take on leadership roles. An important part of the course is peer-to-peer teaching, including the Halloween safety performance. First grade students at all four elementary schools each got to experience the exciting performance.
First graders laughed and cheered as their 12th grade peers dressed as some of their favorite TV show and story time characters while reminding them of basic Halloween safety protocols. The tips included not entering a stranger’s house, not eating any unwrapped candy, looking both ways before crossing the street and wearing bright colors at night for visibility.
