It is the mission of the Physical Education Program at Northport High School to demonstrate a commitment to the comprehensive education and development of each student as an individual and as a member of the school community. Specifically, physical education activities, while embracing the New York State Learning Standards, offer students an opportunity to: a)understand the benefits of engaging in regular physical activity now and for a lifetime; b)improve cardiovascular and respiratory health through vigorous activities; c) demonstrate an understanding of how to participate in a "Safe and Healthy Environment"; d) develop sound "character" traits through participation in physical activities; e) promote and help improve self-esteem; f) help promote socially acceptable behavior, cooperation and teamwork through activities; g) develop life-long skills that students can carry into their adult years.
ATTENTION ALL STUDENT ATHLETES
The NCAA Eligibility Center recently launched a website specifically dedicated to educating students and parents about the new NCAA Division I eligibility standards for 2016 and beyond
Our Boys Varsity Soccer team won the Suffolk County League II
Championship with a commanding win vs. Riverhead HS in their last
regular season contest. The Tigers have an overall record of 13-2 with a
League II record of 11-1. The last time the Tigers won the league was
in 2012. A combination of teamwork, determination and hard work led to
this incredible achievement.
Congratulations to our student-athletes and to our Coaches Don Strasser and Cary Gluck.
The Tigers start their playoffs at home on Tuesday October 24th at 2 pm.
