Norwood Avenue Elementary School has several artists in the making! Several students were awarded scholarships to attend the USDAN Summer Camp for the Arts, including Dean Michaelidis who was awarded the “Uniquely U” full scholarship. Dean was one of only ten students on Long Island to win this scholarship.
In order to receive this scholarship, Dean has to submit a video application where he described his love of art, music and theatre and how the programs available at Norwood Avenue helped foster his passions.
Additionally, Norwood Avenue was awarded the “School Scholarship” for having the largest number of students apply for the “Uniquely U” scholarship from one school. Norwood art teacher Mrs. Tara Amato along with music teacher Mrs. Maureen Edwards selected a 3rd grade student, Josselyn Canales for this great honor.  Josselyn will also attend USDAN this summer on a full scholarship.
Many additional Norwood applicants received partial scholarships and will be attending USDAN as well. Congratulations to Fiona Banks, Vincent Buonocore, Madelyn Chu, Gianna Costello, Mackenzie Konop, Akira Kos, Alice Larsen, Penelope Mansfield, Savannah Mondragon, Ayla Pillich, Reese Pokorny, Anthony Soto and Olive Sposato.
