Summer Construction Brings Refreshed Spaces Throughout District

Summer construction across the district has brought refreshed building spaces to Northport High School, Ocean Avenue Elementary and Northport Middle School.

Summer construction projects this year were largely limited to these buildings; as a result, the extensive summer programming took place in other buildings, including GET SMArT camp, Summer Learning Program, and Extended School Year, amongst others.
Northport High School received updates to faculty restrooms, an extensive renovation of The Little Theatre, and a new roof on a significant portion of the building. Updates were also made to the main office spaces and counseling center.

Northport Middle School also received updated bathrooms, library space, and a new roof on a large portion of the building. One major upgrade currently in progress is the addition of a security vestibule, which will enclose the school’s courtyard and be an overall significant improvement to the safety of the school. The project is estimated to be completed by late fall.

Ocean Avenue also received an upgraded all-purpose room, main hallway and library.

Several additional small projects were completed throughout the district, including filtered bottled water installations, relocating of electrical boxes, painting and much more.

A great deal of this work was completed by internal staff, including maintenance, grounds and custodial teams led by Director of Facilities John Lackner. These staff have gone above and beyond by learning special trade skills and working extensively throughout the summer to complete many of these upgrades, saving the district time and money.

Thank you to the entire custodial, maintenance and grounds teams for your hard work and commitment to keeping our spaces beautiful!
