Northport High School seniors Dora Fields and Michaela Tumsuden have been selected as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Students selected as semifinalists in this prestigious scholarship program excel in multiple Advanced Placement courses while achieving great academic success in extra- and co-curricular activities, among other academic accomplishments.
Approximately 1.3 million juniors from high schools across the country entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of 16,000 semifinalists represents 1% of U.S. high school seniors, who now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million.
In February, more than 95% of the semifinalists will be selected to advance to finalist standing and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
