Northport High School senior Hannah Cho has talent across a multitude of fields, from music, to business and beyond. Now, she can add “National Merit Semifinalist” to her resume, as she was selected for the prestigious recognition for the 2023-24 school year. Hannah earned this recognition following her score on the 2022 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Hannah can now pursue becoming a National Merit Finalist and complete her scholarship application with support from her guidance counselor, Kristin Catz. This highly competitive process is determined based on the student’s academic performance, extracurricular activities, community service record, leadership, employment experience and more.
“Hannah is a wonderful example of a Northport Tiger. She is truly deserving of this recognition and I am confident she will continue to make herself and our school community proud through her academic and extracurricular achievements,” said Principal Rob Dennis.
While over one million students will take the PSAT and become entrants for the National Merit Scholarship, only approximately 16,000 are selected as semifinalists. Finalists will be announced in February 2024 with scholarship winners announced the following month.
While Hannah is still deciding on her future plans, she has hopes of pursuing a career in business with a focus on sustainability. Congratulations, Hannah!
