Northport High School senior Ellie Johnson is already proving to be a successful artist, both in and out of school. Her artwork, titled “In Our Own World,” was purchased by the museum to be included in their silent auction fundraiser and was ultimately sold to a purchaser.
The oil on linen painting had already been on the museum’s radar as an Honorable Mention at the Heckscher’s Long Island BEST Show last year. Ellie expressed surprise at being asked to sell the piece when the museum reached out to acquire it. Earlier this year when the museum reached out to me and told me that they wanted to purchase my piece, I was shocked,” she said. The museum then purchased her piece and Ellie was able to attend the auction where many beneficiaries, donors and artists were in attendance. The piece was originally done as part of her IB Art class with teacher Christine Driscoll.
The artwork is Ellie’s second that she has sold; the first was sold to the Huntington Arts Council last year. The senior has plans to pursue a career in architecture and incorporate artwork into her life and career moving forward.
